oscar predictions-2010-film awards (I)

Best Director Most likely winner : James Cameron for Avatar . Big scale, big budget and the academy loves James Cameron. Also won at the Golden Globes. Apart from that, directing interaction fictional characters and actors set in an generated world couldn't have been easy. Backup Pick : Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker . War dramas traditionally do well and this is one of the best about the Iraq war thus far. The intensity and tension is kept up through the entire film. The director never goes into criticism of the war but always remains focused on the people who are fighting. Most deserving (My pick): Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds . Directing a movie with so much storylines and characters can be daunting but by now we're used to Tarantino pulling it off. I think there should be some recognition for a director who never fails to disappoint and blends (critically) good cinema with popular acclaim. Best Adapted Screenplay Most likely winner : Up in the Air ...

Best Actor Most likely winner : Jeff Bridges as Bad Blake in 'Crazy Heart'. A boring movie, so slowly paced that it's effort to watch any scene that Bad Blake isn't in. Jeff Bridges portrayal of an aging, alcoholic country singer drives the entire movie. Backup Pick : Colin Firth as George Falconer in 'A Single Man'. A convincing and moving portrayal a college professor dealing with the death of his gay lover.Set through one day, the idea of a man who sees nothing to live for is accurately conveyed. Most deserving (My pick): Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in 'Invictus'. I always think portrayals of real life people are more difficult, especially when they're world renowned figures because every tries to pick up flaws. Freeman comes close to Mandela not just in looks but in the personality and more importantly the attitude prevalent at that time. Best Actress Most Likely Winner : Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne Tuohy in 'The Blind Side'. San...
